How I Slowly Built the Habit of Exercise
About 5–6 years ago, I used to watch many videos about success, becoming rich, and the habits of successful people.
Most of those videos talked about things like discipline, mindset, and daily routines. But one habit that I noticed almost every successful person had in common was exercise.
That made me think.
I also wanted to join a gym and get fit since childhood. But at that time my parents did not allow it, so I decided that I would join a gym after I started earning money.
But since I was not earning yet, I decided to start with something simple.
So that is how my exercise journey started.
Starting With Jogging
I started jogging with my friends.
We continued it for around three months. After that, I had to move to another city, and my routine completely changed.
For some time, I stopped exercising because I didn't have friends there to join me.
But later I decided to start again alone.
Slowly I added more small exercises like:
-
Push-ups
Pull-ups
-
Stretching
I did not try to do everything at once. I just added things step by step.
This was the first time I understood that habits grow slowly.
When Job Life Started
Later, I finally got a well-paying job, and my schedule changed again.
After 4–5 months of working, I joined a gym.
But even then, I was not perfectly consistent. I went for some months, skipped for a while, then started again.
That is when I realized something important.
Consistency is not about perfection.
What Consistency Actually Means
Consistency does not mean doing something perfectly every day for your whole life.
That is almost impossible.
Life has many responsibilities:
-
work
-
family
-
personal life
-
unexpected situations
So sometimes we will skip workouts, and that is normal.
What really matters is starting again.
This mindset changed the way I looked at habits.
This mindset changed the way I looked at habits.
Things That Helped Me Build the Habit
Here are a few simple things that helped me create the habit of exercise:
1. Start with what you can do
Don't wait for the perfect time or perfect setup.
Start with what you have.
2. Start small
Do small things that are easy to continue.
Even a short workout is better than doing nothing.
3. Accept breaks
Sometimes you may stop for a few days or even weeks.
That is normal.
Just start again when you can.
Building habits is a long-term process.
Final Thought
Exercise is not just about fitness.
It is about building a habit that supports your life for the long term.
You don't have to be perfect.
You just have to keep returning to it.
