Why I Uninstalled Facebook (And What I Realized Later)
Most of us feel that if we don’t use social media, we will miss out on important updates, stories, and what’s happening in other people’s lives.
We think we will be left behind.
But if you observe carefully, most of those updates don’t really affect your life.
If something truly important happens, someone will tell you anyway.
Still, we carry this fear of missing out.
I had a small experience that completely changed how I look at this.
The Day I Lost 45 Minutes
Around 6–7 years ago, I was trying to remember one of my friend’s birthdays.
I checked my phone, notes, and other places, but couldn’t find it.
Then I thought, “Let me quickly check Facebook. It will take just 1–2 minutes.”
I opened Facebook.
But instead of checking the birthday, I saw a video post.
I started watching it.
Then another video came.
Then another.
And it continued…
After 30–45 minutes, I finally closed the app.
And then one question hit me…
Why Did I Even Open It?
I suddenly remembered that I had opened Facebook for a specific reason.
But I never completed that task.
Instead, I lost almost an hour doing something I didn’t even plan.
That day I realized something very important:
👉 These platforms are designed to keep you engaged, not to help you finish your work.
They keep showing content so that we stay longer, and in return, they earn money from our time.
And we don’t even notice it happening.
The Decision I Took
After that experience, I made a strong decision.
I uninstalled Facebook from my phone immediately.
Not because it is completely bad, but because I realized I was not using it with purpose.
One Important Thought
I am not saying that using social media is wrong.
But if you are using it without any clear reason, then the most important thing in your life — your time — is being wasted.
And most of the time, we don’t even realize it.
Final Thought
It’s not about completely avoiding social media.
It’s about being aware of how and why you use it.
Because once your time is gone, you don’t get it back.
